Cruise Job Application Process: Step-by-Step

1️⃣Pre-Screen Interview

2️⃣Skills Training or English Training (If Required)

3️⃣Ship Recruiter or HR Interview

  • Conducted by the cruise line’s hiring team.
  • Can be in-person, online, or via an authorized recruitment agency.
  • Focuses on job knowledge, skills, and personality assessment.

4️⃣Medical Exam & Seafarer Training

  • Medical examination as per seafarer standards (fit-to-work certificate required).
  • STCW (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watch keeping) safety training.

5️⃣Confirm Ship Assignment

  • The cruise company assigns the candidate to a specific ship and position.
  • Contract details and joining date are confirmed.

6️⃣Visa Application

  • If the ship operates in U.S. waters, a C1/D visa is required.
  • Other necessary visas depend on the cruise route and nationality of the crew.

7️⃣Prepare Pre-Boarding Documents

  • Includes passport, visa, medical certificates, training certificates, and contracts.
  • Additional cruise line-specific requirements may apply.

8️⃣Dispatch Crew Member

  • Flight and travel arrangements to the assigned ship.
  • Pre-embarkation briefing before joining the cruise ship.
